Warriors Sneak Past Knights in Opener

The Wayne State Warriors (1-0-0) had a successful debut to their 2004-2005 campaign as they downed the ECAC’s Clarkson Golden Knights (0-3-0), 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Providence transfer Jason Bloomingburg (3-0—3) led the Warriors with a hat-trick that included the game-winner at 15:15 of the third period. Freshman Stavros Pasakaris (1-0—1) and redshirt freshman Mike Forgie (1-0—1) also scored for the Green and Gold.

Will Hooper made the start in net and stopped 24 of 28 shots to earn his first “W” in a Warriors sweater.

WSU finished the contest with a 2-8 power-play mark while CU went 1-9.

The Warriors and Golden Knights will conclude their two-game bill with a 2:05 PM matinee face-off back in Plymouth on Sunday afternoon.
