Finlandia men split, women swept

Finlandia's men's team split at Lawrence over the weekend while the women were swept at Wisconsin-River Falls.

Friday night, the men (3-2-0, 2-2-0 MCHA) suffered a 6-1 setback, but did get 39 saves from sophomore goalie Joe Juntilla. Joe Lewis scored the lone goal. The next night, five different players - Jamie Leffler, Ryan Olson, Josh Paquette, Mike Parks and Joe Welgos - scored to pace the Lions to a 5-2 win. Juntilla stopped 23 shots.

The women lost 4-2 and 5-1. Katie O'Brien and Sara Sleik scored for the Lions (0-6-0, 0-2-0 NCHA) on Saturday as Corinne Czekaj made 27 saves. Sunday afternoon, only senior co-captain Becky Beauchamp scored. Goalie Katie Markovich stopped 40 shots.

Finlandia's men's team hosts Wisconsin-Eau Claire this weekend at the Houghton County Arena while the women are idle before hosting Wisconsin-Stevens Point Dec. 3-4.
