Lake Superior State earns 3 points

Ferris State outplayed Lake Superior State on Friday night, but was out performed on Saturday in a wild weekend series.

On Friday, Matt Violin made many key stops to secure a tie for the Lakers. Ferris State outshot Lake State by a 2 to 1 margin, but just could not get the puck home more that 2 times. The Lakers Bo Cheesman and Bulldogs Jeff Legue traded breakaway goals in the 1st period. Jon Boras got the Lakers the lead in the second period, but Matt Rutkowski evened the score. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

On Saturday, it was all Lakers at the start as freshman Bulldog goaltender Derek MacIntyre had a rough start. After playing for the Soo Indians last year and puting up record numbers, MacIntyre had a hard time making key saves early and was yanked after Lake State scored 3 in the first half of the second period. Ferris State made it a one goal game, but that is as close as they got all night. Lake Superior State's Matt Restoule notched the game winning goal in the third period to lead Lake State to a 5-4 victory.
