Michigan, Ferris State honored by CCHA

University of Michigan sophomore forward T.J. Hensick and sophomore defenseman Matt Hunwick were both honored with CCHA Player of the Week awards, the league announced today. Hensick received the Offensive Player of the Week laurel while Hunwick was named the Defenseman of the Week.

Hensick celebrated his 19th birthday last Friday with two goals and an assist against Bowling Green at Yost Ice Arena. His first tally of the night proved to be the game-winner. He also had a +2 rating during the 8-3 U-M victory. The next evening Hensick added a goal and assist and was +1 as U-M came from behind for a 5-4 win at BGSU for the weekend sweep.

Hunwick picked up his first career hat trick on Friday night vs. the Falcons and in the process set personal single-game records for goals (3) and points (3). By bringing his goal total to four this season, he also set a season high for goals. On Saturday, Hunwick notched two assists. The first came on the game-tying goal in the third period, while the second came just minutes later on the game-winner.

Ferris State freshman Derek MacIntyre is the Goaltender of the Week after stopping a career-high 34 shots in a 2-1 win at Miami (Ohio). Bulldogs defenseman Adam Welch earned Rookie of the Week honors. He was +4 with his first career goal in two games against Miami.
