Tech Goalie Nabs Honors

by Andy Bourdeau

Michigan Tech University senior goaltender Cam Ellsworth was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and Inside College Hockey's Player of the Week after a spectacular weekend against Denver University's number-one ranked offense.

Ellsworth stopped 76 of 77 shots he faced on the weekend and held the high powered DU offense to just 1 goal in the weekend series. Ellsworth earned his second career shutout victory on Friday night at Denver's Magness Arena as he stopped all 35 DU shots. He followed that up by stopping 41 saves of 42 shots in Saturday's contest .

His efforts helped the Huskies split a two-game road set with the #5 team in the country.

For his career, Ellsworth has been named national player of the week twice and WCHA defensive player of the week three times.

Ellsworth has taken the lead role in net for the last 13 of the last 14 games Tech has played.

Tech turns to a CCHA opponent as they face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday, January 18th in Green Bay and Cam will no doubt get the call in net again for MTU.
