Tambellini Grabs Monthly Honor

University of Michigan forward Jeff Tambellini has been named the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month for March.

The Maize and Blue junior had points in seven of eight games, including five multi-point games, four power-play goals and three game-winning goals to lead the Wolverines to a 7-1 record and a CCHA playoff championship in March.

Tambellini opened the month with five points in a sweep of Bowling Green in Michigan's final regular-season series; he finished the month with three goals and two assists at the NCAA Midwest Regional, earning All-Midwest Regional Team honors as the Wolverines beat Wisconsin, 4-1, and fell to Colorado College, 4-3.

The month of March also saw Tambellini contribute five points in CCHA playoff action. Tambellini notched two points in a first-round series sweep of Notre Dame and collected three more points in Super Six action against Alaska Fairbanks and Ohio State as Michigan captured the Mason Cup for the third time in four years. Tambellini, who struck for the game-winning goal in the Super Six final against Ohio State, was named the Most Valuable Player of the CCHA Tournament.

Tambellini averaged 1.9 points-per-game during March with four-game point and goal-scoring streaks. Overall, Tambellini registered 24-33-57 in 42 games to lead the Wolverines in scoring in his junior season.

Special mention for RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month honors goes to Ohio State freshman forward Tom Fritsche, Northern Michigan sophomore forward Darin Olver, Alaska Fairbanks freshman goalie Wylie Rogers, Michigan State senior forward Jim Slater and Nebraska-Omaha freshman forward Bill Thomas.
