The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (12-3-0 overall, 7-2-0 GMHL) scored 15 goals in two games as they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 8-3, Friday and 7-3 on Saturday.
Friday, the Grizzlies were led by forward Brent Cooper (four goals, two assists), Will McMahon (two goals, three assists) and Jordan Ingram (two goals). OU goaltender Chris Joswiak made 27 saves.
"It was a good win," OU assistant coach J.R. Dunn said. "I felt this weekend was key for us to stay in the hunt for the GMHL regular-season title."
Saturday, Oakland fired on all cylinders out of the gate to take a 5-1 lead heading into the first intermission. IU would score the next two goals, one in the second and one at the beginning of the third, to make it interesting. However, with IU on the power play with less than two minutes remaining Oakland would get two short-handed goals, one from Cooper and one from McMahon to seal the Grizzly victory.
Oakland was again lead by Cooper, pictured above left, (three goals, assist) and McMahon (two goals, two assists). Jonah Rogowski ended the night with two goals and Ingram finished with three assists. Others getting on the scoresheet for the Grizzlies included captain Brandon Lipari (two assists), Dan Oleksy (assist) and Adam Charnoby (assist). Goaltender Andrew Hansen made 26 saves.
The Grizzlies were phenomenal on this weekend's power play opportunities going a combined 5-for-12, brining their season total to 30-for-118 or about 25 percent.
OU will have a much-needed weekend off before heading to Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 2 to take on Central Michigan University.
