Nothing was solved Tuesday night at Munn Ice Arena as host Michigan State tied Ferris State, 2-2.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the third period to gain the tie.
"It was a tough game," MSU head coach Rick Comley said. "Sometimes there are good ties and sometimes there are bad ties. I wouldn't say this was a bad tie, but you knew coming in that energy could be a major problem and it was. I thought the kids worked their tails off in the second period to build a lead and then we took some penalties."
Tim Kennedy and Tim Crowder scored for the Spartans (4-2-1, 2-2-1 CCHA) before Adam Welch and Zac Pearson rallied for FSU (3-5-1, 1-3-1 CCHA).
Jeff Lerg stopped 29 shots for Michigan State, while Mitch O'Keefe turned aside 20 at the other end.
"I felt both teams kind of shot themselves in the foot," Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels told USCHO. "Most of the time when you take bad penalties they end up in the back of the net. I felt fortunate that we were able to get out of it."
The two teams will complete this week's home-and-home series on Friday in Big Rapids.
