WSU opens with exhibition blowout

The Wayne State women skated to a 13-3 exhibition win over the University of Windsor on Friday night at City Sports Center Arena.

The Warriors scored five goals in the first and third periods and surrendered just one tally in each period. Eight of WSU's 13 goals came on power plays, as Windsor amassed 18 penalties in the game.

Senior Melissa Boal scored four times for Wayne State and freshman Alyssa Baldin netted a pair with an assist.

All three new goaltenders saw time between the pipes. Delayne Brian started for WSU, while Lindsey Park and Brittany Zeches totaled four saves each.

The Warriors out-shot the Lancers, 53-12.

Wayne State opens the regular season next weekend at home against Bemidji State University. The puck drops Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

NOTES
A banner was raised prior to the start of the game commemorating Wayne State earning a share of the College Hockey America regular season championship last season ... WSU is 3-0 all-time against Windsor and the teams had not met since 2004 ... The Warriors had not posted a double-digit goal total since a 16-0 exhibition win in 2001 against Michigan State.
