Wayne State’s (7-2-1) continued their winning ways over the weekend as they swept #10 Northeastern at the City Sports Center.
Sam Poyton (pictured) was a one woman wrecking crew on Friday as she picked up all four goals in Warriors come from behind 4-3 win.
For Poyton it was her second hat trick this year, giving her 11 goals in 10 games this season.
Defenseman Jill Szandzik picked up a pair of assists and Delayne Brian registered 27 saves for her third straight win.
Annie Hogan, Kristi Kehoe, Erin Reil all scored for Northeastern and Leah Sulyma made 21 saves.
Wayne State also collected $4,000 on Friday’s Skate for the Cure night as part of the CHA’s ongoing initiative to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research and treatment.
The Green and Gold completed the sweep on Saturday afternoon in Detroit with a hard fought 3-2 win.
Wayne State trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes of play, but fought back at 3:09 of the second as Melissa Boal ripped a shot into to the top corner on the power-play to tie up the score.
Blueliner Chelsea Burnett picked a great time for her first goal of the season as she pounded in a puck from close range on the power-play, just 39 seconds into the third period.
Brian and the Warrior defense held the Huskies off the board for the rest of the game to win their fourth straight and sixth out of their last seven games.
Brain finished the night with 26 saves to move to 5-1-0 on the season.
Lindsay DiPietro had a three-point afternoon with a goal and two assists.
Florence Schelling turned aside 25 shots in the Northeastern net.
Kristi Kehoe scored twice in a 91-second span for the Huskies, giving her three goals on the weekend.
With the pair of victories, Wayne State moved to 6-2-0 all-time against Northeastern and 14-6-0 versus teams from Hockey East.
The Warriors will continue their four-game homestand as they start the CHA portion of their schedule next Friday evening against the Syracuse Orange.
