By The Lake Superior State Lakers split a tough series with the Bowling Green State Falcons over the weekend. They lost a close decision on Friday, 4-3, while bouncing back to a decisive 8-4 victory on Saturday.
Lake State got on the score board Friday in the second period, when captain Troy Schwab banged a rebound home with assists going to Josh Sim and Simon Gysbers. Pat Aubry then added another rebound goal assisted by Tyson Hobbins.
Rick Schofield scored in the third assited by Steve Kaunisto, but couln't find the equalizer despite outshooting the Falcons, 35-20, for the game.
In net, Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 16 saves.
Saturday night, the Lakers jumped all over BGSU in the first period, using the power play. Sim netted one and Schofield scored two with the extra man. Dan Barczuk also scored for the Lakers in the first period.
Lake State continued the attack in the second period as Kyle Pobur scored his first collegiate goal and Aubry scored his second of the weekend.
Will Acton and Nathan Perkovich got in on the action in the third period, each scoring a goal. Kaunisto had two assists in the game.
In net, Mahoney-Wilson made 16 saves before being relieved by Pat Inglis in the second. Inglis made 14 saves for the Lakers (7-11-8, 4-8-6-1 CCHA).
Next weekend, LSSU hosts the Michigan State Spartans in CCHA action.
