The tenth-ranked Wayne State Warriors (13-3-2, 4-0-0 CHA) opened the New Year on a high note, dumping the St. Cloud State Huskies, 3-2, in the opening game of the Easton Showcase on Friday night.
The Green and Gold bolted out to a 3-0 lead by the 3:16 mark of the second period on goals by Chelsea Burnett, Veronique Laramee-Paquette, and Melissa Boal’s team-leading 17th goal of the season.
The Huskies add a pair of goals by Holly Roberts and Caitlin Hogan before the second period was done to close the gap to one.
Lindsey Park (pictured) shut the door from there, stopping 14 shots in the third period to preserve the Warrior’s 10th win in their last 11 games. Park finished the night with a season-high 33 saves and improved her personal record to 5-1-1.
Blueliner Natalie Payne racked up two assists for her fourth multiple-point game of the year.
The Warriors fought from behind on Saturday and tied the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, 3-3, in the finale of the Easton Classic.
Micheline Frappier notched a pair of markers for WSU and Payne added a goal and assist.
Alyssa Wiebe led the Sioux with two goals and an assist.
Lindsey Park started between the pipes again and stopped 30 shots to keep the Warriors unbeaten in their last five contests.
The Warriors remain winless (0-7-2) all-time in nine meetings with the Fighting Sioux.
Wayne State will take next weekend off before hosting Robert Morris for a series Jan. 16-17 at the City Sports Center in Detroit.
