CCHA Final: Michigan-Notre Dame LIVE BLOG

All-Championship team:
Notre Dame - F - Ben Ryan
Notre Dame - F - Calle Ridderwall
Michigan - F - Louie Caporusso
Michigan - D - Steve Kampfer
Notre Dame - D - Ian Cole
Notre Dame - G - Jordan Pearce

MVP: Jordan Pearce

End of game: Notre Dame scores four third-period goals to wrap up the CCHA Championship, 5-2.

1:20: Michigan can't even get off any good looks at Pearce. Notre Dame looks to be headed to Grand Rapids for the NCAA Regional.

3:05: Notre Dame scores to make it 5-2 and all but wraps up the 2009 CCHA Championship.

5:40 - The crowd is pretty close to silent - those wearing Maize and Blue, that is. Then Condra gets two for cross-checking. A PPG from U-M here would help, but Pearce is standing on his head.

8:49 - Ridderwall with his second of the game makes it 4-2 Notre Dame. Put a backhand on net, followed his own rebound and beat two U-M defenders to go five-hole on Hogan, who looks deflated.

9:20 - Pearce with two more stops on a flurry in the paint. If Notre Dame wins, he's your reason. Wow!

9:33 - Pearce with the save of the game on Czarnik, who was in tight, made a move, but Pearce stayed with him. Wow! TV timeout and Kosta is screaming again. Good Lord.

12:22 - Palushaj runs over Pearce and is in the box for a couple.

15:04 - Michigan looks rattled.

16:50 - Lebler levels Blatchford behind the Notre Dame net.

17:55 - Ben Ryan walks in and roofs a bullet over Hogan. Oh my! The tide is turning. Irish 3, Michigan 2

18:15 - Hogan whiffs on a shot from the top of the left dot from Blatchford that Ridderwall tips. Tie game!

THIRD PERIOD
______________________

0:00 - End of second period. Shots 23-21 Michigan - Michigan 2, Notre Dame 1

:15.3 - Rust for a hook. A weak call, but the right call. So that means the sound guy has to play "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson. Because that song goes here. Sure.

2:44 - Cole for interference. Michigan needs a good old-fashioned PPG here. Likewise, ND needs a kill.

3:23 - Hanson nails Burlon behind the Michigan net. Nice, clean hit.

3:50 - Another effin' TV timeout.

4:20 - Notre Dame coming on strong. Michigan looks gassed.

6:06 - Hogan with a nice save on a Ridderwall blast from in close.

7:49 - Notre Dame SCORES! Maday with a nice move with a shot through a Michigan defenseman. Hogan never saw the shot. Wolverines 2-1.

8:38 - Lawson hauls down Wohlberg going to the net - that's tripping, kiddo.

9:41 - Naurato cross-checks a player into the ND net. Two minutes for you, son. Kosta is back on the mic and my inner ear is suffering big-time!

10:31 - Pearce denies Caporusso.

10:57 - Scramble in the blue paint and Hogan has it. A joke floating around the press box here says that he's Red Berenson's third-favorite Hogan behind Linda and Hulk. Funny.

11:52 - TV timeout. I hate these.

13:52 - Lawson knocks down the puck with a high stick in the offensive zone. Faceoff to Pearce's right.

14:42 - Czarnik for slashing.

15:31 - U of M goes offside. Late whistle by the liner that elicits the boo birds again.

17:50 - Wohlberg in on a partial break ... SCORES!!! 2-0 Wolverines. The Irish D was just a step (or two) behind on that one. Nice shot by Wohlberg - short-side on Pearce. Nice pass by Miller to find Wohlberg splitting the D.

17:59 - Michigan is winning all the races to loose pucks.

19:48 - Pearce misplays the puck, Hagelin has an open net ... but Cole blocks the shot. Sweet play.

SECOND PERIOD

All the kids' teams that played in the Mite Jamboree are being paraded onto the ice. Cool way to showcase these kids as it must be a thrill to have played on the JLA ice.

0:00 - End of first period - Shots 11-9 Notre Dame - Michigan 1, Notre Dame 0

1:32 - Wohlberg for slashing. Pretty obvious when the other guy's twig is now in two.

2:46 - Kissel with a shot off the post long-side on Hogan.

4:20 - Summers with a big hit on Hanson, who got twisted up on the play.

5:28 - Michigan SCORES! Kampfer with a shot on Pearce, it pinballs to Luke Glendening, who goes shelf. Luke Glendening. Amazing. 1-0 Wolverines.

6:20 - Game has great pace. Back and forth. Crowd is live.

7:34 - Michael Kosta from CCHA All-Access is doing in-game trivia. Like Karl said, this cat does NOT need a mic. My ears are bleeding. Well, almost.

8:28 - Shot goes off Pearce and off the top of the net. Still 0-0. This crowd is HOT.

10:07 - TV timeout - Hogan has looked sharp early. Pearce has only had to make two saves.

12:20 - Langlais got nailed along the boards by Maday. No call. Good (no) call.

12:49 - Kampfer off for holding. I guess.

14:03 - ND's Lawson off for interfering with Summers. Easy call to make.

14:51 - Pearce with about three saves on a goalmouth scramble.

17:15 - Hogan with a save on Guentzel. ND is pressing.

20:00 - Ryan wins the opening draw from Rust.

FIRST PERIOD

Notre Dame pep band with the anthem. Not too shabby.

The Irish starting lineup is being announced and the boo birds are out in full effect. Three Michigan-born kids in the starting lineup, too.

Refs are Matt Shegos and Steve McInchak - liners are TJ Likens and Tony Molina

About six minutes to go and both teams are on the ice. This Michigan crowd is LOUD. Louder than "Let It Rock."

Ten minutes to game time and Joe College is skating around the ice. Crowd looks decent and definitely a pro-Michigan crowd. Lil' Wayne and Kevin Rudolf's "Let It Rock" is now blaring. LOUD.

Starters
Michigan: LW - Carl Hagelin, C - Matt Rust, RW - Aaron Palushaj, LD - Mark Mitera, RD - Chris Summers, G - Bryan Hogan
Notre Dame: LW - Ryan Thang, C - Ben Ryan, RW - Erik Condra, LD - Ian Cole, RD - Kyle Lawson, G - Jordan Pearce

DETROIT - Just about 15 minutes until the drop of the puck on this year's CCHA championship final. The consensus in the press box here at Joe Louis Arena is 50-50.
