RMU adds Michigan flavor to staff

By Matt Mackinder/MiCHO Exclusive

A source close to MichiganCollegeHockey.com has confirmed that the staff at Pittsburgh-area Robert Morris University will have even more of a Michigan flavor come next fall.

First off, RMU head coach Derek Schooley played at Western Michigan from 1990-1994. Secondly, his two newly-hired assistant coaches will be Matt Nicholson, former assistant at Adrian College, and Joe Shawhan, a former Lake Superior State goaltender and assistant coach who also coached the Soo (Mich.) Indians junior team for a number of years. He was a volunteer assistant coach at Northern Michigan last season as well.

Replacing Nicholson at Adrian is ex-Wayne State forward Stavros Paskaris (pictured at WSU Senior Night 2008), who coached this past year at Ohio University, and also played for the Indians under Shawhan.

Outgoing RMU assistant Joe Tuset also played one game at Northern Michigan in 2003-2004 before playing his last three seasons with the Colonials.

Official announcements from Robert Morris and Adrian are expected later this month.
