The University of Michigan announced on Thursday that forward Jeff Rohrkemper (Grosse Pointe Woods) will join the Wolverines as a walk-on for the 2009-10 campaign.
Rohrkemper is the sixth member of U-M's freshman class for this fall, joining four other forwards and a defenseman.
Rohrkemper (5-foot-11, 177 pounds) has played the last two seasons with the United States Hockey League's Sioux Falls Stampede. In 2008-09, he contributed 25 points on eight goals and 17 assists. He took part in all 60 games, compiling a plus-6 rating and 45 penalty minutes.
"We're very excited that Jeff Rohrkemper has decided to return to the state of Michigan to play here at U-M," said associate head coach Mel Pearson. "We expect him to challenge for a spot in our starting lineup. He's a good two-way player who can bring some grit and some energy to our team, like Luke Glendening did last year. We're excited and happy to have Jeff as part of our program."
In 2007-08, Rohrkemper posted a 7-6-13 line in 54 regular-season contests for Sioux Falls. He earned Michigan High School Athletic Association All-State first team honors at Grosse Pointe North High School in 2007.
