Live Blog: Michigan State/Michigan Tech

Karl Henkel/At the GLI

ALMOST GAME TIME: Live from the first row ... This means two things: no spell check for me, but possibly good photos and videos. Stay tuned.

GAME TIME: Drew Palmisano and Kevin Genoe get the starts in net for MSU and MTU, respectively.

4:29: Brett Perlini gives MSU an early lead with a power play marker.

8:00: MTU gets a chance with the man advantage but Palmisano remains sharp early on. MSU has an odd-man rush as it returns to full strength.

11:02: Michigan Tech, who has dominated after MSU's goal, ties the game on Drew Dobson's tally.

12:31: On a shot so harmless I didn't bother to take a picture of it, MSU's Zach Josepher scores. MTU switches netminders (hello Josh Robinson).

13:38: Robinson could have stayed on the bench. MSU scores another (Corey Tropp) and leads 3-1.

End of first: MTU carried most of the play, but MSU holds a 3-1 advantage and a carry-over power play.

Second period

:32; Michigan Tech survives the penalty kill and looks to regroup early in the second period.

1:30: Or not. Dustin Gazley boots one past Robinson for a 4-1 lead.

5:42: Michigan Tech leaves Daultan Leveille wide open in front of the net, and Leveille makes the Huskies pay. It's 5-1, but still too early to pen MSU into tomorrow's championship game.

7:30: Offsetting minors plus an additional call on Michigan State gives Tech a power play. The Huskies have had their chances, but capitalizing has been the difficult part.

9:16: Even down a man, the Spartans score. Zach Golembiewski nets his first goal of the season with one of the sickest backhands you'll see, beating Robinson blocker-side for a 6-1 MSU advantage.

10:27: Michigan State scores ... again. To be honest, I was too busy typing the last entry to see who scored, but after looking at the replay, it appears it was Nick Sucharski from in front of the net. Spartans lead 7-1.

11:27: I field a work phone call. Figured this game needed some excitement.

16:09: Matt Crandell. 8-1 Spartans. Enough said.

16:31: Tech fans give Robinson a sarcastic cheer after he gloves a shot fired at his chest.

End of period: Michigan State may not be dominating the shot totals (20-17), but the score (8-1) tells the whole story.

Intermission test video: Pointless at the time, but ironic due to the game. MTU goalie Josh Robinson warms up before the game.

Third period

2:24: MSU's Tom Buttery finds himself in the penalty box for interference deep in MSU territory.

8:48 : Perlini again. It's 9-1 and still ugly.

15:30: Shots are amazingly evened up at 26 each with just about four minutes to play. It's still hard to imagine this game is as lopsided as it is.

17:20: Make it an even 10. Trevor Nill backhands a shot home.

18:04: Fisticuffs at center ice. Well, maybe just a skirmish.

End of game: The Spartans win, 10-1, and will await the winner of the Michigan/RPI game for tomorrow night's championship game.
