In what would be a common trend over the weekend, Michigan defeated Ferris State on Friday night, but then allowed a last-minute goal last night as the Bulldogs gained a split in the home-and-home series.
Michigan State mirrored this situation in beating Ohio State Friday night before giving up a late goal Saturday night to settle for a split.
Friday night in Ann Arbor, Luke Glendening scored both goals for Michigan as the Wolverines knocked off Ferris State, 2-0. Bryan Hogan made 22 saves to record his third shutout of the season, while Pat Nagle made 34 saves in the loss.
"(Glendening) should get rewarded," Michigan defenseman Steven Kampfer said. "He sacrifices his body for this team every day. He got rewarded tonight. He is one of the heart-and-soul guys of this team, and when he plays well, the entire team plays well. He makes the team click."
Brian Lebler tied Saturday night's game at 2-all at 18:11 of the third period before Zach Redmond scored a power-play goal at 19:36 to seal the deal in Big Rapids.
"We knew Ferris State would bounce back after losing three in a row," Michigan head coach Red Berenson said. "It was a close game. I think penalties decided the game. It was heartbreaking for our team after battling back from a deficit and tying the game in the last minute and a half. Then to take a penalty -- a senior defenseman (Kampfer) takes a bad penalty -- and we can't kill it. It's a tough pill to swallow because we're right back in the game and we have the momentum."
Casey Haines and Matt Case also tallied for the Bulldogs, while David Wohlberg scored the other goal for Michigan (14-11-1, 9-8-1-0 CCHA).
Nagle finished with 27 stops and Hogan kicked out 29.
Ferris State (17-7-2, 11-5-2-2 CCHA) is at Ohio State next weekend for a pair, while the Wolverines play at Michigan State on Friday night before heading to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit to complete the "home-and-home" set with MSU Saturday night.
MiCHO's Karl Henkel will be at The Joe Saturday night with a live blog, exclusive photos and a game recap.
