By Matt Mackinder/Michigan State Beat Writer

The Michigan State Spartans hosted the surprise team of the CCHA, Lake Superior State, last weekend and came away with a win on Friday night and then a shootout loss Saturday night.

The shootout loss, however, goes into the national record books as a tie.

Andrew Rowe scored twice in MSU's 4-2 win Friday night, while John Scrymgeour scored both for the Lakers.

Co-captain Nick Sucharski and Derek Grant also tallied for the Spartans, while Torey Krug and Corey Tropp had two assists each.

Drew Palmisano made 31 saves for the win and at the other end, Brian Mahoney-Wilson stopped 28 for LSSU.

Saturday night, Krug's goal at 17:02 of the third period sent the game to overtime and then the shootout, where the Lakers won in five rounds.

Rowe had a goal and an assist for MSU and Dustin Gazley scored the other in the 3-3 tie.

Rick Schofield recorded a goal and an assist for Lake Superior State. Steven Kaunisto and Dan Barczuk added the other goals.

Palmisano stopped 32 shots and Mahoney-Wilson registered 30 saves.

MSU (15-6-3, 10-3-3-0 CCHA) has a home-and-home series with Notre Dame this weekend, starting Friday night in South Bend. The Lakers (12-8-4, 7-7-2-1 CCHA) host Nebraska-Omaha.
