Lakers frozen in Alaska

By Tom Balog / LSSU Beat Writer

The Lake Superior State Lakers start to a two-game set at Alaska didn’t quite go as planned as Nanooks posted a 4-0 shutout at the Carlson Center.

After a scoreless first twenty, the Nanooks ripped off three straight goals in the second period to take control of the game.

Dustin Sather led UAF with two goals and an assist and Joe Sova and Scott Greenham added single tallies.

Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 22 saves for LSSU and Scott Greenham turned away 32 for UAF.

The Lakers were hammered again in Saturday’s finale, 5-1.

Jarret Granberg, Dustin Sather, Andy Taranto, Dion Knelsen, and Brandon Knelsen all scored as the Nanooks moved to 4-0-2 in their last six games.

Will Acton scored the lone goal and Pat Inglis made 22 saves in a rare start for LSSU.

Scott Greenham stopped 42 shots for UAF.

With the pair of losses the Lakers (15-14-5, 10-13-3-2 CCHA) now sit in ninth place in the CCHA, just two points ahead of Notre Dame.

LSSU will close out the regular season with a pair of contests against archrival and sixth place Northern Michigan in Marquette next weekend.
