LSSU brooms aside Colgate at home

By Bob Miller/Lake Superior State Beat Writer

After disappointingly battling resurgent Notre Dame to a pair of close road losses last weekend, Lake Superior State enjoyed the comforts of home this weekend, taking a pair of decisions over their ECAC visitor, Colgate.

Brian Mahoney-Wilson backstopped the Lakers to a close 2-1 win on Friday night. The senior netminding stalwart made 31 saves, 12 alone in the third period, to help preserve the Lake Superior victory.

Dan Barczuk scored the winner for the Lakers early in the second period of the defensive struggle.

The offensive gloves came off Saturday night.

Zach Trotman set up Dan Radke for the winning tally with only 14 seconds remaining in the contest to complete the weekend sweep with a 5-4 edge over Colgate.

Four other Lakers added single goals – Chad Nehring, Matt Cowie, Fred Cassiani and Colin Campbell – in the win that pulled the Lakers to within one game of the .500 mark for their overall season record, 2-3-1.

The Lakers head back out on the road to visit one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, Miami, for a pair of games next weekend.
