MSU gains split with Ohio State

Michigan State hosted Ohio State for a pair of key CCHA games this past weekend and after dropping an overtime heartbreaker Friday night, regrouped and shutout the Buckeyes on Saturday night.

In the first game of the series, the Spartans allowed three straight goals, capped off by Alex Szczechura's game-winner 1:23 into overtime, to drop a 4-3 decision.

Drew Palmisano made 35 saves, while Derek Grant, Mike Merrifield and Jake Chelios scored in the loss.

Saturday night, Palmisano finished with 22 saves for his third career shutout in a 4-0 whitewash of OSU.

Brett Perlini had two goals and an assist for Michigan State and Grant added three helpers.

Captain Torey Krug and Chelios tallied the other goals for MSU (4-3-3, 2-3-1-0 CCHA ).

The Spartans play on the road at Notre Dame next weekend.
