Spartans swept aside by Notre Dame

By Matt Mackinder/Michigan State Beat Writer

The Michigan State Spartans dropped both games on the road this weekend to Notre Dame and are now a paltry 1-5-1 in CCHA play and 4-5-3 overall.

Friday night, the CCHA-leading Irish (9-3-1) posted a 6-2 win.

Derek Grant and Greg Wolfe scored for MSU, while Drew Palmisano and Willie Yanakeff combined for 25 saves. Palmisano made 13 through 40 minutes and Yanakeff made his Spartans' debut in the third period with a 12-save effort.

Last night, Yanakeff started and just 22 seconds into the game, turned aside a Ben Ryan penalty shot.

Dean Chelios and Michigan State captain Torey Krug scored for the visitors and Yanakeff finished with 19 stops.

MSU hosts Ferris State this Tuesday night before heading on the road to the College Hockey Showcase against Minnesota and Wisconsin this weekend.
