LSSU earns two points against Buckeyes

By Bob Miller/Lake Superior State Beat Writer

Kevin Kapalka's 35-save performance on Friday night single-handedly led to a pair of points in the CCHA standings for Lake Superior State in a shootout win over Ohio State, but the Buckeyes gained a measure of revenge with a dominating 5-2 Saturday night decision.

Kyle Jean scored the only goal of Friday night's shootout to secure the win saving Kapalka's dominant performance in goal.

After Lake Superior jumped out to a 2-0 lead Saturday night on goals by Colin Campbell and Rick Schofield, the Buckeyes roared from behind with five unanswered tallies for the victory.

“He played well,” Lake Superior coach Jim Roque told USCHO after Kapalka's opening night performance. “He was put in a really tough situation, losing Brian (Mahoney-Wilson) at Christmastime. He's held up really well. He has really good composure.”
