Wildcats split with No. 17 Wisconsin

Compiled by MiCHO Staff

Northern Michigan opened the new season on the road with a 3-2 overtime win over No. 17 Wisconsin on Friday night, but couldn't keep the momentum going in a 3-2 loss to the Badgers Saturday night.

Sophomore Reed Seckel made his first career goal the game-winner with three seconds left in the OT on Friday night.

Kory Kaunisto and Justin Florek scored the regulation goals for NMU and Reid Ellingson kicked out 27 shots for the win.

Saturday night, Florek notched a pair of power-play goals, but Derek Lee's goal with just under four minutes to play in the third period gave Wisconsin the split.

Jared Coreau made 25 saves for the Wildcats (1-1-0).

NMU hosts St. Cloud State next weekend at the Berry Events Center.
