Michigan documentary debuts Friday night

Blue Ice: The Story of Michigan Hockey
, an hour-long documentary detailing the history and tradition of the University of Michigan ice hockey program, will premiere on Fox Sports Detroit immediately following the Wolverines game vs. Michigan State on Friday, Dec. 9.

The game is scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. face-off and will be also be shown on FSD.

The film unveils the history of Wolverine hockey, documenting its challenges and its shining moments. It covers the entire past of the program, spanning from its forming as the Huron Hockey Club and culminating with the sold out "Big Chill at the Big House," which allowed a world-record crowd of 113,411 witness the Wolverines defeat the Michigan State Spartans at Michigan Stadium in December 2010.

Blue Ice documents the rise, fall and rebirth of Michigan hockey, which captured seven national titles from 1948-1964, followed by a 32-year championship drought before legendary head coach Red Berenson led the program to its eighth and ninth titles in 1996 and 1998.

In addition to the broadcast version, a special DVD edition will include over 20 minutes of additional stories, interviews and rare footage. The DVD will showcase archival newsreel footage of Michigan's record setting teams of the 1950's and highlights of the 1977 national championship game, in which Michigan fell to Wisconsin.

The DVD will be available for purchase ($20) on the MGoBlue Multimedia Store and M Den locations, beginning next week.

Maybe like 90,000 for that game in M stadium- I was there plenty of empty seats in top corners.
