Hockey Canada announced last Thursday that Wayne State University head women's hockey coach Jim Fetter will serve as head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team for the 2010-11 season.
Fetter has spent the last three years within Hockey Canada as an assistant coach. For the last two seasons, Fetter was an assistant with the Under-22 Team, winning a gold medal at the 2009 MLP Cup in Ravensburg, Germany, and a silver medal in 2008. He was also an assistant coach with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team during the 2007-08 season, winning a silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship in Calgary, Alta.
Fetter will lead the 2010-11 National Women’s Under-22 Team into a three-game series against the United States, August 18-21 at the Mastercard Centre in Toronto, Ont., before heading to Kreuzlingen, Switzerland for the 2011 MLP Cup.
The three-time College Hockey America Coach of the Year completed his seventh season at WSU in 2009-10 and has 109 career victories. Fetter was a finalist for the American Hockey Coaches Association Women's Division I Coach of the Year Award in 2006 before earning the award in 2008.
