MTU swept again, loses Dorriott

By Andy Bourdeau / MTU Beat Writer

Michigan Tech was swept for the fifth straight weekend, this time by Nebraska-Omaha by scores of 5-2 and 3-1.

The Huskies also lost another of their top-minute players in Ricky Dorriott, who suffered a lower body injury and will be on the shelf for four weeks.

On the weekend, MTU received goals from Peter Hienonen, Milos Gordic and Aaron Pietila. If these names don't sound familiar, don't worry, you are not the only one. With the number of injuries on this team, getting a starting line-up is a struggle. Hienonen and Pietila's goals were the first of the year for both players.

For the second straight series, both games were tied or within a goal going into the third period, and that is when the Huskies seem to run out of gas.

On Thursday, the Huskies took a couple of poorly timed penalties that help seal their fate.

"We gave an unbelievable effort,” said Huskies' head coach Jamie Russell. “We had three of our defensemen playing through injury tonight. Their courage and determination was outstanding."

Josh Robinson and Kevin Genoe split time between the pipes for MTU.

Michigan Tech will play Northern Michigan in Marquette Friday, December 17th, then will be off until the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Dec. 29-30.

Where is the Lake State/Western recap? This ain't the first time the Broncos have been skipped.
