Niagara sweeps WSU for first time since '05
by Tom Balog / WSU Beat Writer
The Wayne State Warriors (7-13-0, 1-7-0 CHA) futility streak reached a season-high six games after being swept by CHA rival Niagara at the
City Sports Center over the weekend.
Even though they out-shot the Purple Eagles, 27-15, in the opener, the Warriors opened the New Year with 3-0 shutout loss.
Jessica Hitchcock, Kaleigh Chippy, and Kristen Richards scored and Jenni Bauer stopped every shot she faced for NU.
Delayne Brian made 12 saves for WSU.
The Warriors showed a little more life on Saturday, but were swept by an opponent for the fifth time this season following a 2-1 setback.
All the goal scoring was confined to the first period and after a Daniela Dal Colle marker, Micheline Frappier (pictured) evened the score by tipping in her second of the season at 11:39.
The deadlock didn't last long though with Caitlin Jenkins scoring just under four minutes later to give the Purps a 2-1.
Bauer made it stand up the rest of the way and finished with 25 saves.
Delayne Brian stopped 20 for Wayne State.
Wayne State will play the middle two contests of their six-game home stand against the red-hot Quinnipiac Bobcats next weekend.
