Da Yooper Report, Eh!

St. Cloud, Minn. – Behind goals by forwards Pat Bateman, Mike Santorelli and Dirk Southern, Northern Michigan picked up its first win of the season with a 4-2 rebound decision on Saturday over the WCHA’s St. Cloud State. The Wildcats came from behind to score three unanswered goals in the third to take the split. NMU dropped Friday night’s contest to the Huskies 2-1. Andrew Contois had the lone goal for the Wildcats Friday. Wildcat redshirt freshman goalie Bill Zaniboni picked up his first collegiate win Saturday.

The Wildcats return to Marquette for next weekends’ home opener series against Rick Comley’s Michigan State Spartans.

Hamilton, NYLake Superior State's woes continue early in the 2004-2005 season as they were swept at Colgate, 3-2 Friday and 2-1 (OT) Saturday. Defensemen Alex Dunn and John Nogatch notched the goals for the Lakers in Friday’s contest. The Lakers stayed strong Saturday behind the performance of junior goalie Jeff Jakaitis, but Colgate’s might against CCHA teams (4-0) proved to be too much.

Lake State plays a home-and-home series next weekend with Michigan with Friday’s contest in the Soo and Saturday’s game at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Houghton, Mich. – Fifth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth did everything in their power to make quick work of the Michigan Tech Huskies, who dropped the weekend series to the visiting Bulldogs, 5-4 Friday and 6-3 Saturday. Tech had a 3-1 lead Saturday going into the third but UM-D’s offense exploded for 5 unanswered goals in the period to send MTU packing. Marek Dora got Tech on the board first followed by goals by Isaac Reichmuth and Colin Murphy. Bryce Luker had 33 saves Saturday but couldn’t get the job done when they needed it.

Michigan Tech is on the road next weekend to Wisconsin for a two-game set at the Kohl Center.
