Lions open MCHA play with MSOE split

Finlandia opened up their MCHA season with a hard-fought 7-5 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night at the Houghton County Arena. The Lions were then blanked, 6-0, the following afternoon.

Sophomore goalie Joe Juntilla made 47 saves for the victory while former Detroit Lightning forward Steve Piccoli, a freshman, had a goal and two assists for the Lions. Freshman Joe Lewis recorded two goals and an assist and sophomore Mike Polini and freshman Josh Paquette each tallied a goal and an assist in a game that saw eight goals (four for each team) scored in the second period.

Sophomore Jamie Leffler scored a pair of goals for Finlandia (2-1-0, 1-1-0 MCHA) while freshman Mike Parks added two assists.

Juntilla stopped 42 shots in the 6-0 loss Saturday.

The Lions continue MCHA play with a pair at Lawrence (Wis.) next Friday (8:30 p.m.) and Saturday (3:00 p.m.).

It is to bad the FU Lions got shutout the second game on saturday. I hope they improve a lot as the season goes on. Look for good things from this program with joe burcur as the coach.
