Michigan drops Showcase opener at No. 3 Minnesota

Top-ranked Michigan lost to No. 3 Minnesota, 5-1, at Mariucci Arena on the first day of the 12th annual College Hockey Showcase Friday night. The loss ended the Wolverines' six-game road unbeaten streak (5-0-1) at the Showcase. Sophomore David Rohlfs netted the lone goal for Michigan (9-3-1).
Al Montoya started in net, but was relieved by Noah Ruden to start the third period. Montoya allowed all five Gopher tallies.
"We just have to play for pride tomorrow night," junior forward Jeff Tambellini said. "That was embarrassing on national TV for an effort like that. We have to come out and just play for pride. Give everything you have and try and do something about that game."
The Wolverines play at Wisconsin tonight.
