MSU takes two from Ferris State

Michigan State earned four CCHA points last weekend with a pair of wins over Ferris State in a home-and-home series.

Junior forward Colton Fretter extended his points streak to seven games with two assists in Friday's 4-2 win and two goals and a helper in the 5-1 win Saturday night.

"It's a great feeling to get a sweep this weekend," said Fretter. "We are really high and excited for next weekend. It's a great feeling."

In Friday's game at Munn Ice Arena, sophomore Dominic Vicari took the win with a 27-save performance. Sophomores Drew Miller and Ethan Graham along with junior David Booth and senior Ash Goldie scored to back Vicari.

"Ferris State had a good win on the road at Bemidji State and then they had a tremendous win over Michigan. They work hard and they skate well," said MSU head coach Rick Comley. "We managed to get them in a hole and they fought through that. You can't let yourself get down when they score a couple of goals. It was a very hard-fought game."

Saturday in Big Rapids, Miller, Goldie and sophomore Tommy Goebel scored to preserve Vicari's 26 saves in net.

"We have had some frustrating nights so far this year, but this was a good weekend of hockey," said Comley. "Tonight was a really good road win. We had a lot of guys play well and the guys who have been picking us keep doing so. We had a very solid goaltending effort, along with the power play. This is a tough building to win in and we had a very good effort."

As for Fretter, Comley is ecstatic.

"Every game he has played, he's played very well," said Comley. "He has been our best player from start to finish."

The Spartans (4-4-0, 3-3-0 CCHA) return to non-conference action with a Friday-Sunday series (Nov. 12 and 14) against Cornell. Friday's game begins at 7:05 p.m., while on Sunday, face-off is set for 2:05 p.m.
