Finlandia wins, loses at Northland

In two MCHA road games last weekend, the Finlandia Lions (5-5-1, 4-3-1 MCHA) beat Northland on Saturday night, but then fell on Sunday afternoon.

The offense exploded Saturday as freshman Joe Lewis scored three goals and an assist and sophomore Joe Welgos had two goals and two assists. Freshman Ryan Olson and sophomore Mike Polini scored the other goals for the Lions.

Sophomore goalie Joe Juntilla made 30 saves in the 7-1 win. Freshman Josh Paquette added three assists and classmate Steve Piccoli two more.

Sunday, Polini's second-period goal gave Finlandia a 1-0 lead at the time, but they squandered five straight en route to a 5-1 defeat. Juntilla made 21 saves in the loss.

The Lions play at the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night before breaking for exams. Next action is Jan. 7-8 at home to non-conference for Bethel (Minn.).

The Finlandia women lost two exhibitions last weekend at Robert Morris College, 6-1 on Friday and 6-2 on Saturday. They travel to Hamline (Minn.) this weekend for two games.
