Lakers Frozen by Saints

LSSU goalie Jeff Jakaitis turned
aside 69 shots against St. Lawrence

The Lake Superior State Lakers (6-11-1, 5-6-1 CCHA) slide into the break with very little holiday cheer as they were swept by the St. Lawrence Saints in Canton, N.Y. over the weekend.

The Saints came from behind on Saturday night with a 2-1 at the Appleton Arena. Jim Hakewill notched the game winner for St. Lawrence at 9:25 of the third period to help the Saints break a three-game losing streak.

Team scoring leader Jon Booras scored the lone goal for the Lakers and Jeff Jakaitis made 37 saves.

T.J. Trevelyan picked up the hat-trick as the Saints completed the sweep on Sunday with a 4-1 victory.

Freshman blueliner Derek Smith picked up the only Laker goal on the day and Jakaitis turned aside another 32 shots.

LSSU has now lost three games in a row and four out of their last five contests.

The Lakers will now break for the Holiday and then return to the Sault for a two game set with the similarly slumping Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Jan. 7th and 8th.
