Finlandia women split with Hamline

After losing 5-2 on Friday night to Hamline (Minn.), the Finlandia women took a 4-3 overtime win the following day over the Pipers.

Freshman Danielle Syrowik was the hero Saturday as she scored 4:39 into the extra session. Syrowik also assisted on one of freshman Ashley Leitch's three goals.

Sophomore goalie Katie Markovich made 17 saves in the Lions' first win of the season.

On Friday, only Stephanie Emmi could beat Hamline goalie Rachael Young as the freshman tallied a pair of goals. Markovich (11 saves in 43:47) and sophomore Alexa Watkins (six saves in 16:13) both played net for Finlandia with Markovich suffering the loss.

The Lions (1-9-0, 0-4-0 NCHA) are off until New Year's Eve and New Year's Day when they host St. Benedict (Minn.) for two at the Houghton County Arena. Game times are 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 2:00 p.m. on Jan. 1.
