Lions take three points from Marian

Finlandia scored 13 goals in last weekend's series at Marian, but only came away with a win and a tie in a tight MCHA series. The Lions are now in third place, two points up on Marian.

Friday night, freshman Joe Lewis tied the game with an extra-attacker goal at 19:43 of the third period and then won it in overtime at 4:23. Lewis also tacked on two assists.

Sophomore Joe Welgos, freshmen Josh Paquette, Derek Onkalo and Jamie Leffler also scored to back sophomore Joe Juntilla's 30 saves in goal. Leffler's goal 5:48 into the third period tied the game before Lewis took over for the Lions (4-4-1, 3-2-1 MCHA).

It was Lewis again on Saturday as he tallied two goals and an assist, but his heroics came up short and Finlandia settled for a 7-7 tie. Paquette, with his second of the game, and Lewis scored the only goals in the third period after Marian scored the last three in the second period.

Sophomore Mike Polini and freshmen Travis Hanson and Brad VanTassel scored the other Finlandia goals. Juntilla made 38 saves in 57:51 after taking over for freshman Lukas Alberer, who stopped just one of four shots in the game's first 7:09.

The Lions continue MCHA play with a pair at Northland (Wisc.) this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
