Two WSU icers earn CHA honors

Wayne State sophomore wing Laura Monk and junior defenseman Sarah Campbell have been selected College Hockey America Players of the Week.

Monk was named CHA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring twice and adding an assist in WSU's win (5-0) and tie (2-2) last weekend against visiting Cornell University. She had seven shots on goal in Saturday's draw, but scored two times on four shots in Sunday's victory. With WSU leading 1-0 early in the first period on Sunday, Monk assisted on a Kristy Leng goal, then scored consecutive power-play goals to seal the win.

Campbell, the CHA's Defensive Player of the Week, assisted on the first goal of both games plus added another helper on Sunday for a three-assist weekend. She also posted a +3 rating and was instrumental in the Warrior special teams performance. WSU went three-for-nine on the power play, stopped all five Cornell man-advantage opportunities and limited the Big Red to 33 shots on goal in 125 minutes. Campbell currently leads the league in assists (10) and points by a defenseman (10).
