Mechanics have Michigan college flavor

The expansion Motor City Mechanics may be a new team in the United Hockey League, but four players on the squad have direct ties to the Michigan college hockey scene.

Forwards Dave Bonk and Matt Hunter both played at Northern Michigan from 2000-2004 while defenseman Tim Laurila manned the blueline at Michigan Tech from 1998-2002. Joe Burton, the Central Hockey League's all-time leading scorer, played one year (1988-1989) at Michigan-Dearborn before embarking on his record-setting career with the Oklahoma City Blazers.

And as a sidebar, the Mechanics' home rink, the Great Lakes Sports City in Fraser (re-named The Garage), was home to the Wayne State men's team from 2000-2003.
