WSU women swept by No. 7 Mercyhurst

The Wayne State women played well against the CHA-leading Mercyhurst Lakers, ranked No. 7 in the country, but came up short in last weekend's two-game set in Detroit.

Saturday, freshman Ashley King's goal early in the second period tied the game at 1-all only to have Stephanie Jones score with 6:33 left in the third to give Mercyhurst the win.

WSU freshman goalie Val Turcotte made 35 saves in defeat.

The next afternoon, senior goalie Tina Thibideau stopped 38 shots, but the Warriors fell, 4-1. Junior Jessica Haydahl netted WSU's lone goal.

Wayne State (7-12-3, 0-2-0 CHA) will look to even its conference mark when CHA newcomer Quinnipiac visits the City Sports Center Arena for a two-game league series Jan. 29-30.
