Warrior women ink five for the fall

Schedule also announced for '05-06 season

Wayne State has signed four forwards and a defenseman to play for the women's team this fall. All Canadians, Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont.), Lindsay DiPietro (Manotick, Ont.), Katrina Fenton (Ottawa, Ont.), Amanda Hungle (Regina, Sask.) and Tina Vanderhoeven (London, Ont.) will join forward Sam Poyton (Hamilton, Ont.), who signed during the early period last November.

Boal recorded 37 points on 21 goals and 16 assists in 2004-05 for the Ottawa Lady Senators in just 26 games.

DiPietro accumulated 45 points on 23 goals and 22 assists in 2004-05 in helping the Ottawa Raiders to a 33-15-3 mark.

Fenton, a 6-foot-1 forward, played this past season with the Ottawa Northstars.

Hungle played the 2004-05 season with the Regina Wild and also Team Saskatchewan at the 2005 U-18 Hockey Challenge in Salmon Arm, B.C.

Vanderhoeven, the lone blueliner, spent this past season with the London Juniors and Team Ontario.

The Warriors compiled a 13-17-3 overall record this past year including a school-best 6-6-0 mark against College Hockey America league foes. The 2004-05 squad is losing five seniors to graduation including WSU's all-time leading scorer in Kelly Zamora. Forwards Heidi Burns and Cheryl Anderson combined for 26 goals and 74 points in their WSU careers. Krissy Langley played both forward and defense in her career, while netminder Tina Thibideau earned 15 career victories.
