Montoya all but signed with Rangers
By Larry Brooks
New York Post
Al Montoya, the 20-year-old Michigan goaltender whom the New York Rangers selected sixth overall in 2004, is closing in on a contract agreement with the club, The Post has learned.
Montoya, who had led Team USA to the 2004 World Championship gold medal, had a sub-par junior season and disappointing 2005 World Junior experience after returning to the Wolverines.
While the bonus package is still being negotiated, it's believed Montoya will be paid what is now the re-set 2004 Entry Level cap of $984,200, including an annual signing bonus of $328,067 for the three years of the Entry Level system.
