MSU set to challenge in CCHA this year

Rick Comley is set to begin his
fourth year behind the Spartans bench

The Michigan State Spartans and head coach Rick Comley have officially announced their 2005-2006 season schedule.

The 38-game regular-season schedule features 18 games at Munn Ice Arena, including a double-dip with in-state rival Michigan and the annual Thanksgiving College Hockey Showcase against WCHA foes Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“Once again, the schedule has good balance this season,” said Comley in an official MSU Athletics press release. “We have a good mix of home and away events. It is important for the team to be on the road in the first half of the year.”

The Spartans will face off their 65th year of varsity hockey with the annual Green and White game on Thursday, Oct. 6th.

MSU will formally begin their season at the 4th annual Lefty McFadden Invitational in Dayton, Ohio on Saturday, October 8th against the Wayne State Warriors. The Spartans will then battle with 2005 NCAA runner-ups, the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, on Sunday, Oct. 9th.

“The Lefty McFadden will be a challenging tournament to open the season,” remarked Comley. “The Fighting Sioux finished as the NCAA runner-up last season and it will be a good test for our squad early on.”

Last season the Spartans finished with an overall record of 23-17-2.
