MiCHO Power Poll 11.21.06

The Michigan Wolverines' five-game winning streak and sweep of Ferris State in Big Rapids has them on top of our weekly MiCHO Power Poll for the third straight week. The Maize and Blue also sit at No. 7 in the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I Men's Poll, just one slot behind sixth-ranked Michigan State.

Lake Superior swept Wayne State and their three-game winning streak moves the Lakers up one rung to No. 4 in our poll, leapfrogging Michigan Tech.

1) Michigan, 9-3-0 (swept Ferris State, won five in a row)
2) Michigan State, 6-3-1 (split with Notre Dame)
3) Northern Michigan, 7-6-2 (split with Western)
4) Lake Superior State, 8-4-0 (swept Wayne State)
5) Michigan Tech, 6-4-2 (lost and tied at Denver)
6) Western Michigan, 5-5-1 (split with Northern)
7) Ferris State, 3-6-1 (swept by Michigan)
8) Wayne State, 2-9-0 (split at LSSU)

Each week, MichiganCollegeHockey.com editors Matt Mackinder and Tom Balog will compile the MiCHO Power Poll. The poll will comprise the eight Division I teams in the state of Michigan.

How can you compare playing Wayne St or Western, to Denver? Denver is ranked nationally and going to Denver at Altitude is one of the tougher things to do. Michigan Tech played 2 solid games in Denver and came away with more than many thought they would (a point). LSSU did what they should have, sweep a bad team. NMU didn't do enough and yet MTU drops. Your polls is ignoring the quality of the WCHA and the fact that 6-4-2 with MTU's schedule is better than NMU or LSSU. I thinks its pretty obvious that MTU is better than LSSU and at least even with NMU. I have a feeling by the end of this season, MTU will be 3rd if not higher.

You are correct that Denver is a tougher team but you have to remember that LSSU did take one from Miami, who is comparable to the middle of the pack WCHA(Denver). I too think MTU will climb by the end of the year.
