In 126 games for the Wolverines, Hunwick tallied 24 goals and 73 assists for 97 career points. In his senior season, Hunwick was named First Team All-CCHA, received CCHA Defensive Defenseman of the Year honors and served as team captain.

A native of Sterling Heights, Hunwick has also competed for Team USA in IIHF World Junior Championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Hunwick was selected by the Bruins with the 224th pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
