The USHL’s Chicago Steel announced today that defenseman and Northville native Tim Buttery has committed to the Michigan State Spartans for the 2008-2009 season.
The 19-year-old Buttery, who currently has seven assists in 12 games, played in 59 games last year and finished with a 2-17-19 line. He previously played for Detroit Catholic Central, graduating in 2006, before going to Chicago last season.
“Tim has made great strides from last year to this year and it has been noticeable on and off of the ice” said Steel coach-GM Steve Poapst. “His commitment to Michigan State is a well-deserved accomplishment for him. Tim has become one of our most consistent defensemen on our team.”
Buttery, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, is the tenth member of the Steel to commit to a NCAA Division I school this year.
