Bulldogs lose top '09 recruit Schmitz

United States National Under-17 defenseman Beau Schmitz committed to Ferris State nearly two years ago, but over the weekend, he reportedly de-committed, choosing instead to re-open his recruitment for the 2009-2010 season.

There have been rumors about Schmitz eventually signing with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League, but for now, it sounds like Schmitz is still looking at the college route.

Schmitz, a Howell native, was Plymouth's first-round pick in last May's OHL draft.

Michigan and Michigan State are two schools that he's been rumored to be talking to.

its tough for a 14 year old to know at that age where he wants to play in 5 years hopefully this kind of thing doesn't happen too often
