Adrian College has announced the hiring of Melissa Lomanto as the head women's coach as the Bulldogs begin their second season in 2008-09.

The team went 11-11-2 in their inaugural season under Chandy Kaip, who left the college to accept a coaching job at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada during the offseason.

Lomanto has seen the Adrian program on the bench for Utica College as both teams played to a weekend split last season. She spent the past four seasons as assistant coach of the Pioneers and was one of the five original Pioneers who began the program back in 2001.

Lomanto had been part of every team in the history of Utica and she advanced to the ECAC Women's West Conference Tournament either as a player or a coach in eight consecutive seasons. She helped guide UC to three consecutive 18-win seasons and she also coached a school-record three All-Americans.

She also played a critical role on and off the ice during her four playing years at Utica. Lomanto spent six summers heavily involved with the Can/Am Hockey School in Lake Placid, New York, as well as working with the USA Select 15/16 Women's Festival.
