Michigan's Wohlberg earns CCHA honor

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced yesterday that forward David Wohlberg of Michigan has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for December.

Wohlberg, a 2008 New Jersey Devils draft pick, notched eight points in four games in the month and moved into a tie for second in scoring among CCHA rookies. He recorded multiple points in three games including back-to-back three-assist games December 6 against Michigan State and December 27 versus Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Invitational. The three assists in a game is a career high in assists and points for Wohlberg.

The 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward tied Michigan sophomore forward Louie Caporusso in team scoring for December and is third overall for the Wolverines.

The, South Lyon native tied a career high when he scored two goals in a December 5 contest with Michigan State including the game winner. Wohlberg helped lead the Wolverines to a perfect 4-0-0 month, that included three wins over in-state rival Michigan State, by averaging two points a game with a plus-5 rating and 10 shots on goal.

Defenseman Nick Bailen of Bowling Green and forward Fred Cassiani of Lake Superior State earned special mention for CCHA Rookie of the Month for December.
