The Wayne State Warriors (19-5-2, 10-2-0 CHA) dominated the Niagara Purple Eagles this weekend as they won 5-1 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday.
Melissa Boal (pictured) and Lindsay DiPietro were critical to the team's victory. Boal had six points over both games, DiPietro had five.
Sam Poyton notched her 19th goal of the season to open scoring on Friday. DiPietro and Boal each added a pair of goals to put the Warriors up 5-0. Only a third-period goal by Niagara captain Ashley Riggs prevented the shutout.
Goalie Delayne Brian finished with 25 saves.
The Warriors started Saturday's game strongly. Boal scored unassisted and then DiPietro lit the lamp with a shorthanded goal to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Brandi Frakie added her first goal of the season with some help from Katrina Protopapas.
Niagara scored two straight goals to cut the Warriors' lead to one, but Boal and DiPietro combined on the power play to set up Poyton's second tally of the weekend.
Mary McKinnon of Niagara scored to make it a 4-3 game.
Brian finished with 28 saves.
The Warriors hit the road to take on Robert Morris next weekend.
