Michigan pipeline continues for Coyotes

By Jim Gintonio/The Arizona Republic

The Phoenix Coyotes' Michigan connection keeps getting stronger.

Two former Wolverine stars, forwards Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik, are in San Antonio. The Coyotes also have defenseman Chris Summers in their system and they drafted right wing Chris Brown in the second round of the NHL draft last month. Brown will be a freshman at the school this fall.

Summers is a hot ticket, a definite top prospect who will be the captain at Michigan this season as he seeks to complete his degree in psychology. He'll likely join the Coyotes at the end of the college season.

"He's such a superior skater, but he's a very good match-up defenseman," Phoenix GM Don Maloney said. "That's his forte. He's may be the best-skating defenseman in college hockey, and he plays with a little edge."
